Baroque music group Le Petit Rien invites you
About the programme The seventeenth and eighteenth centuries represent a cultural golden age for
both Italy and England, during which time the musical language of each became interwoven into the language of the other. It was also a time of busy artistic exchange between other countries in Europe, developing a style that would become known as les goûts-réunis, or mixed taste. The stylus phantasticus of the early Italian Baroque was subtly absorbed into the music of Locke, Blow and Purcell, where it was further refined with the distinctive English flavours of the day. Later, the brilliant virtuosity of Corelli and his contemporaries received widespread notice and publication in England, and inspired the works of baroque giants, such as Handel. This programme samples all the ingredients of that cultural cooking pot! About the group Le Petit Rien, led by recorder player Francesca Thompson, is a group of outstanding young musicians working in the field of early music. Based in both Amsterdam and London the members regularly play concerts on an international stage, often with the most famous and respected groups such as The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Bach Collegium Japan and The Sixteen. |
