Sometimes in an ensemble situation, it can be nice to accompany the recit on Viola da Gamba (rather than Harpsichord or Lute).  It often works very well and gives a totally different colour.

Here is a score of a recitative I perform with my small ensemble, Les Elements. It shows one possibility for realizing the recitative on the viola da gamba. It does not show how to break each chord, but if you are really interested, you can figure that out for yourself.
